Cattle in the fields

07 May 2016

After a long month of cold winds and wintery showers we have now got some sunshine and warmer weather. The weather has stopped the grass growing so we are still feeding the sheep with bought in sheep feed. If we did not feed them the ewes would not have milk for the lambs. This involves a lot more work than usual for this time of the year and we will have to continue to feed then for another week yet to allow the grass to grow. The sheep which lambed in April stayed in the sheds for longer to allow the lambs to grow bigger so they could survive the cold weather.

The spare lambs on the milk machine have grown well and half of them are now weaned. We moved them to another shed where they get pellets and hay.

Yesterday we got the cattle out of the sheds into the fields. They are enjoying the eating the grass, We are just hoping this better weather will last and the grass will keep growing.

We’ve had a great stay here, loved having the animals just outside the garden and seeing all the nature around us.
